What is this years theme?
This year’s theme is “Our Wonder Changes the World” and encourages students to recognize the power of curiosity and the question, “What if”?
Are AI and digitally generated art allowed?
No, all artwork must be the original creation of the student. Content created by or including elements created by AI or any image generating software is not allowed.
Who can enter the contest?
Lawful residents of the United States of America who are currently students in Kindergarten through 12th Grade.
How do I enter the contest?
Starting December 1st, a parent or guardian may submit a student’s artwork using the Submit Entry tab at the top of the website – artcontest.larc.nasa.gov. Entries must be submitted by Midnight, Eastern Standard Time, on December 31, 2024.
When does the contest begin?
Entries will be accepted online at artcontest.larc.nasa.gov beginning December 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023.
When does the contest end?
All artwork must be submitted by midnight, Eastern Standard Time, on December 31, 2023.
Do I have to pay money to enter the contest?
No. The contest is free to enter.
Will I see my artwork online?
Yes! Once your artwork has been submitted and approved for entry into the competition, you can view your artwork at the NASA Langley Flickr site.
Can I enter more than one time?
Each student can enter the contest only once, so choose your best piece!
How will the Artwork be judged?
Entries will be evaluated based on originality, interpretation of theme, creative techniques, composition, and overall art appearance.
How many students will win?
Each grade will have a 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, and honorable mention winner.
What are the requirements for file size?
We recommend the original artwork be no larger than 18 inches x 12 inches and the digital file must be be a .jpg or .png file no larger than 5mb. The winning artwork will be evaluated for resolution and the artist will be contacted if a higher resolution image is needed.
How will I know if I won?
Contest officials will select the winners from each grade and the winning artists will be notified using the provided email address. The winners will be selected and notified no later than February 28, 2025

I’m a teacher, can I submit my student’s art?
Yes! However, you must have a parent or legal guardian sign the release form and it must accompany your student’s art work submission. There will be an opportunity to attach the form in the artwork submission process.
When will the winners be announced?
The winners will be announced on this website no later than February 28th, 2024. If your artwork is a winning piece, you will be notified using the email address you provided when submitting your artwork.
